Demola Oladipo’s The Nights We Tell is a frame-narrative collection set in Nigeria where fantasy and reality overlap. The overarching framing story follows Ronke, who returns to Lagos after nine years in London following her mother’s death. She receives her mother’s red notebook of forgotten names and meets an old man known as the Keeper on a “street that forgets”. To fulfill an ancient agreement between the living and the dead, Ronke tells and listens to stories night after night to remember the forgotten and bring the stories back to the river.
